You’ve been meaning to build the course for a while now.
Maybe there’s an outline sitting in a Google Doc you haven’t opened since March. Maybe you’ve chosen a platform and logged in twice. Or maybe it’s just been turning over in the back of your mind, waiting for a quiet week that never quite arrives.
I speak with a lot of coaches and consultants sitting in exactly this spot. You’re good at what you do, your clients get results, and you’re busier than you’ve ever been. Which is precisely why the course hasn’t happened – you’re giving your time and energy to the people paying you right now and there isn’t much leftover to focus on developing a high-value asset for your business.
That’s what makes “just build a course” such unhelpful advice.
what done-for-you online course creation actually means
Done-for-you online course creation means someone else builds the course while you stay focused on your clients. What’s actually included varies a lot between providers though, so it’s worth asking early.
Some handle the tech only – platform setup, page builds, uploading your videos. Some work at the content level but need you to make every decision. Others describe themselves as full service but operate more like project managers, which means you’re still the one driving.
None of that is wrong. It just might not be what you need. For most of the people I work with, the missing piece isn’t someone to complete the tasks. It’s someone to think it through with them while the tasks get done.
That’s the space I sit in. My background is online business management, so I’m looking at the structure of your offer, the logic of your student journey, and the systems that need to exist before and after launch. Then I build it.
why it stalls when you try to do it yourself
One-to-one work is time-heavy by design. That’s the whole point of it, and it’s why your clients get such good results. But it does mean growth eventually starts costing you evenings, weekends, and a fair bit of your brain space.
Adding a course or group program to your suite of offers can change that. Not by replacing the work you love, but by creating a second pathway where your thinking reaches more people without needing more of your hours.
The catch is that building one properly takes strategy, tech setup, content organisation, launch assets, and ongoing management. It isn’t a quick weekend project. And if you’re already at capacity, adding it to your own list isn’t really scaling. It’s just more juggling (and more guilt when you drop the ball again).
So the course sits there, half-built, and making you feel behind every time it crosses your mind.
what The Melbourne Freelancer looks after
The short version: the whole thing, from the shape of the offer through to the day it goes live.
That can cover how your content is sequenced, platform setup and configuration, payment and email integrations, member portals, drip schedules, onboarding flows, and the launch assets you need to actually sell it. I can work in a range of course platforms, and if you’re working on Kajabi specifically, you can read more about how I approach done-for-you Kajabi course setup as part of that process.
You stay involved where it matters – your expertise, your brand and voice, all the key decisions. But you don’t need to be involved in working out why the checkout page isn’t talking to the right automation at 7pm on a Tuesday.
the part of building an online course people underestimate
The back end of a course business is bigger than it looks from the outside.
Every one of those integrations is a decision, and every decision has consequences further down the line for your students’ experience and your own admin load. Set it up in a hurry and you end up with a patchwork of quick fixes that someone (you) has to maintain forever.
I build these things thoughtfully so they make sense for you and your business, and possible to change later without pulling the whole thing apart. That might not matter in week one, but by month eight it’s too late to go back and do it properly. I won’t leave you in that kind of mess.
who this works best for
This works best if you’re an established solo service provider with a clear offer, a solid track record of client outcomes, and a decent sense of where you want the business to go. You don’t need someone to tell you what to sell. You need the implementation off your plate, and someone to sense-check the thinking as it gets built.
If you’re still working out your niche or testing a first offer, something more DIY will probably serve you better right now, and I’ll tell you that if you ask. Here’s more on your options for getting a course created from scratch if you want to compare approaches before committing to anything.
One more thing worth knowing: you work with me. I’ve intentionally not scaled this into an agency with a production line, because the work I’m best at happens when my brain is in the room. It’s also why most of my new work comes through referrals rather than advertising.
already have a course that isn’t working?
Plenty of people come to me with something already built that’s become a bit of a burden – clunky in places, held together with workarounds, and chewing up time every month.
That’s very fixable. Usually it’s a case of tidying up what’s broken, streamlining the tech, and putting a structure underneath it that lets the offer actually grow instead of just tick over.
where to start a done-for-you online course creation project
If an online course or program has been on your list for longer than you’d like to admit, the useful next step isn’t another planning session. It’s a conversation about what you’ve got, what you want it to do, and what it would take to finally get it built.
Book a call and let’s work out what the right next step looks like for your business.
